The problem

It is 2:14am and you have been elbowed twice. Not hard — just enough. Your partner is not angry with you, they are exhausted, and somewhere along the way they stopped mentioning it because there was nothing left to say. One of you has started drifting to the spare room around 3am and neither of you calls it that.

You have already tried things. There are strips in the bathroom drawer. There is a spray that worked for about a week. Maybe there is a mouthguard you wore for four nights before giving up on it. And there is a shelf of oddly-shaped pillows that promised to fix this and did nothing.

Here is why none of them worked. Lying flat, gravity pulls the soft tissue at the back of your throat downward until your airway narrows. That is the entire mechanism. A pillow that cradles your neck does not change it — you are still horizontal, so gravity still closes the same airway. It fixed your neck and left the actual problem exactly where it was.

What we did about it

We stopped trying to reposition the neck and raised the whole upper body instead.

The VESU Anti-Snoring Wedge Pillow is 50 cm deep and rises 26 cm — a 27 degree incline. Shallow enough to sleep on all night, steep enough to keep gravity working along your airway instead of across it. Your head, neck and chest travel together. Nothing sits on your face. Nothing straps to your head. Nothing needs charging.

Most people notice something on the first night. The person next to them usually notices first.

Because "one height fits everyone" is why the last one failed

Every fixed-shape pillow you have bought made a decision about your neck without asking. Too high and your chin tucks into your chest. Too low and your head tips back and your mouth falls open — which is the thing you were trying to stop.

The roll on this one runs on a strap down the side. You slide it up or down until your chin sits level, and it stays where you left it. It takes about ten seconds and you will do it once.

The bit that aches at four in the morning

Sleeping on your back is what stops the snoring. It is also what makes your lower back complain by 4am, because there is a gap between the mattress and the curve of your spine and nothing is filling it.

So take the roll off the top and put it under your waist. Same piece, different job. The incline keeps your airway open, the roll fills the gap, and you stop waking up at four wondering why your back hurts when you did nothing yesterday.

You stop reaching over the edge in the dark

Everyone who wakes at 2am reaches for something — the phone, the glasses, the remote. You lean over the side of the bed, you fumble, and by the time you find it you are properly awake and it is 2:40.

There are three pockets down the side panel, at hand height. That is the entire point of them: whatever you reach for at night is already where your hand is.

And it is the reading chair you do not have room for

Stand it upright against the headboard and it becomes a proper back support for reading, working from bed, or the weeks after surgery when sitting upright is the only comfortable option. The roll moves to the small of your back.

That is why it earns its space in the bedroom. It is not a thing you only use lying down.

What else it settles

  • Reflux and heartburn. The same incline that keeps your airway open keeps stomach acid where it belongs. If you have been managing this with a stack of pillows, that stack is why your neck hurts.
  • Blocked sinuses. Elevation drains rather than pools. Fewer mornings that start with a headache and a dry throat.
  • Late pregnancy, when lying flat stops being an option and side-lying needs something to lean into.

Side sleepers

Most wedges are built for people who sleep on their back, which is a problem, because most people do not. The foam here is firm enough to hold the incline under a shoulder rather than collapsing into a V. If you are a committed side sleeper, expect about a week of it feeling unfamiliar. That is normal, and it is what the 30 days are for.
